What's Happening at CCEJ?
King County's Green Choice
06/23/2009
CCEJ has endorsed the King County Green Choice campaign to make the environment a priority in the King County Executive race. Five candidates are running to replace Ron Sims, who was appointed by President Obama as Deputy Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The King County Executive is an important position that has considerable impact on Washington?s environment. The next Executive will have an impact on issues such as Puget Sound restoration, transportation, land use, and much more.
Voters in King County make the environment a top priority at the ballot box, but now we have a chance to urge the candidates to make it their top priority. You can find out where candidates stand on the environment at the King County?s Green Choice Debate at Town Hall on June 30th! That's Tuesday, June 30, 7-9 pm at Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave, Seattle.
Tenth Anniversary of Bellingham explosion
06/09/2009
Ten years ago a gasoline pipeline exploded in Bellingham, killing three young people in a park. Soon afterward CCEJ learned that a smaller version of the same pipeline runs under Beacon Hill, right across the street from the Holly Park community. We formed the "Fumed Over Fuel" campaign which secured a cooperative agreement with Olympic Pipeline officials to ensure that we are kept informed of their safety inspections and that all of their community outreach information is provided in various languages to residents living along the pipeline. Former CCEJ Organizer Nate Moxley was appointed by then-Governor Gary Locke to the Citizens Committee on Pipeline Safety.
